Poem: What We Call Vegetables: Leaf

Leaf

To make a living
we traded home
for sun, endured

the cold, adopted
Chinese customs,
Italian cooking.

Our passports read,
Spanish vegetable,
country of birth

unclear, Nepal
or imperial Persia.
